The Board
Professor Caspar Clark: Chief Executive Officer & Chief Technical Officer
Caspar has a BSc (Hons) in Physical Science for Microelectronics and PhD in Physics specialising in laser diode mortality. He is a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor in Functional Thin Film Materials and Applications at the University of the West of Scotland Thin Film Centre. He has worked extensively in the field of optical thin films. Caspar was a founding member of the Helia team in September 2002 and remains hands-on from equipment build to coating design.
Nick Somerville: Chief Financial Officer
Nick was awarded the degree of Economics from Heriot-Watt University in 1993 and an MBA from the University of Edinburgh in 2000. He has been involved in the printing industry with Kroma Printing Ink until its sale to Sicpa. He is currently the Financial Director of Helia Photonics and has been a Director of the company since 2002.
Professor Gerald Buller: Chairman
Gerald graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Natural Philosophy from the University of Glasgow in 1986 and a PhD in Physics from Heriot-Watt University in 1989. As well as being a highly experienced academic at Heriot-Watt University, Gerald co-founded TeraHertz Photonics Ltd in 1998 and Helia Photonics Ltd. in September 2002.
Personnel
Helia Photonics is proud to have an excellent workforce of technicians, engineers, scientists, administrators, and development officers. Our multi-national team consists of people from all sorts of educational backgrounds, we have employees with PhDs in photonics, optics and chemistry, degrees in science, engineering and finance, as well as immeasurably experienced workers who entered the workforce from high school. Helia is also proud of its record of investing in young workers, with a long history of hosting PhD students, Masters students, and undergraduate students.
