Helia Photonics Ltd was formed in September 2002 and is based in purpose-built facilities at Rosebank Park, Livingston in Scotland.

The company founder Dr Gerald Buller (Chief Executive Officer) formed the company to address a need for coatings and back-end processing in semiconductor optoelectronic components and to address a gap in servicing the prototype coating requirements of SME's and research institutions. Whilst the processing of semiconductor optoelectronic devices remains a major part of the customer base, the company have branched out into many areas of precision optical coatings for wide-ranging photonics applications. 

The company is owned and controlled by management and private investors.
